Background

The International Halal Integrity Alliance ("IHI Alliance") is an international not-for-profit organization created to uphold the integrity of the halal market concept in global trade through recognition, collaboration and membership.

IHI Alliance was incorporated as a company limited by guarantee in the international off-shore financial centre of Labuan on 30 April 2007. The formation of IHI Alliance was the outcome of a resolution that was passed at the inaugural World Halal Forum in May 2006 by international delegates representing all areas of the Halal industry value chain and around 30 countries, which was to form its own industry organisation.

The World Halal Forum 2006 marked the first time in history that issues affecting the halal industry were brought to light in a professional and open arena. The presence of Y.A.B. Dato' Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, Prime Minister of Malaysia and Chairman of the Organisation of Islamic Conference ("OIC") made the occasion all the more auspicious.

In his keynote address at the second World Halal Forum in May 2007, Dato' Seri Abdullah said "Malaysia would be honoured to contribute towards making the IHI Alliance a strong and effective organisation. We offer Malaysia to be the host venue for the IHI Alliance. Going forward, it is our hope that the World Halal Forum, through the IHI Alliance, will be able to achieve some form of global consensus on how to further develop the halal industry."
